Cricket :)

51st post of this blog had to be special. As special as the game of Cricket.

I hate to say, but apparently I am one of the millions crazy fans of cricket. A simple game of 22 players trying to hit a ball couldn't be more complex. Though ICC is working overtime to add the complexities.

Anyways, other than a Cricket based website (where I worked for a couple of years), I have been an ardent follower, fan & observer of Cricinfo.

I must mention how the commentary with the live scorecard make me imagine the proceedings at the stadium. The credit simply goes to the commentators & scorecard-keepers who add the topping to the already delicious (Cricket) pizza :)

One such commentator is Sriram Veera. Following are few excerpts from 4th Test match commentary of India-Australia Series in 2008:

---------------------------------------

Deepak: "Sachin now becomes the first batsmen to aggregate 5000 Test runs in the first innings of a test match..what a man !"

And that Tendulkar's stat was in the first innings of a Test match, not first innings for a team in a Test. So basically, if a team chooses or is put into bat first, then on that occasion.

Tejas is not impressed with the stats: "Its high time people stopped looking at meaningless records like first to aggregate over 5000 runs in the first innings of test matches. What next Most Runs of the Front Foot? Most Runs in the V? please ask people to watch the cricket. Thank you." Rough day, eh?

Harsha: "Actually, I wonder who scored the most runs on a rainy Wednesday." Easy. Boycott.

Jools from Australia says: In the spirit of the ridiculous stat about Tendulkar, could Krejza become the bowler to concede the fastest first 100 runs of their test career? He's got to be giving it a good go."

Easwaran: "How about the most consecutive 4s on even weekend away from home in a stadium with over 100 people on the 5th day of the match by a tailender in rain?" I give up but I think it's Stuart Law. He has done everything.

Sujay: "Actually the Sachin stat is interesting: his detractors claim he never scores in the 2nd innings. If he has completed 5000 runs in 1st innings only now, it means he has over 7000 in the 2nd!" NO NO... this is about the first innings of a Test match, not a first innings of Sachin. Ie whenever any team has won the toss and chosen to bat or put into bat. Sachin will have more runs than that in his first innings. Basically .. it's just a stat for the statfreaks.

cot hits me with this: "Your comment about Stuart Law doing something on the 5th day is impossible! He only played 1 test and it finished on the 4th day." Uff! you faithless lot. It's not Stuart Law's fault that he was not given the chance to pull of that record.

Hemanth Kumar: "Another irking stat is regarding partnerships such as, "This is the 3rd highest 4th wicket partnership for India against Australia on this ground". I could complicate it further but you sure get the point." WE DO WE DO!

They just showed the old ball. The shiny side is not really all that shiny if you know what I mean. Allan Border is not too happy with the way the Aussies have worked on the ball.

Davesh: "Forget Sachin, think about me. Whenever Sachin is batting, i try to ensure that i don't change my sitting position (superstitious - my movement might disturb his focus :) Now the problem is i had too much of water during the lunch time & really feel like going to restroom. But Sachin - i am not complaining. I will wait till tea. No worries." You can also get a life in the tea break! I know I should!

Akshay: "Regarding Shiny Side: Ponting should change his brand of Chewing Gum ;-)" He can start by not spitting on his hand and spit on the ball.

Karthik offers this stat: "Sachin Tendulkar has gone past Border again here. He now has 91 fifty plus scores in tests which is a record. The record was previously held by Allan Border who had 90 fifty plus scores to his name."

Abhinav: "Every second ball Ponting spits on his hands! Now i know why the indians have become so aggressive. The more the bad blood the more are the chances that the customary handshake with Ponting at the end of the day's play can be avoided! "

Venu is getting desperate: "How many females read/watch your writting/typing commentary? Do you get any feedback from females?" Yes, but won't be passing the email ids to you!

TV informs that Lax has gone past 300 without getting dismissed.

Ganguly is having a cup of tea/coffee. And he rips open a sugar sachet with his mouth and pours the content in. Now he stirs the pot. This is the 5,987th time he has drunk tea while waiting for his chance to bat.

---------------------------------------

I hope Cricinfo wouldn't mind me copying their stuff for my blog. But it was indeed a double treat for people like me, who love to have fun & know stats all along while a match is going on.

It is said that even God is ashamed
